Winnipeg social justice groups hold ‘Greenland is not for sale’ rally

0

When the mercury drops in Winnipeg, you know it takes something truly important to draw people out. This past Saturday, local peace and social justice organizations braved the frigid winter temperatures to send a clear message: ‘Greenland is NOT for sale!’

The rally, held outside the U.S. Consulate in downtown Winnipeg, was a powerful demonstration against what activists perceive as continuing threats from the Trump administration. While the immediate focus was on Greenland – which President Trump had expressed interest in purchasing – protestors also extended their solidarity to Venezuela and Cuba, nations that have increasingly found themselves in the crosshairs of U.S. foreign policy in recent months.

Despite the biting cold, Winnipeggers showed up in force, their collective voice unwavering. It was a testament to the deep-seated commitment within the community to stand up for sovereignty and self-determination for all nations, no matter how far away they may be.

The message from Winnipeg was loud and clear: from Greenland to Venezuela to Cuba, the global community is watching, and many are ready to stand in solidarity against perceived injustices. It was a cold day, but the spirit of solidarity was undeniably warm.
