ANALYSIS | Chakwera’s Problem Is Not Politics — It Is Leadership

As the political winds begin to shift towards future elections, a critical question looms over Malawi and its current leadership. If President Lazarus Chakwera harbours ambitions for another term, he must first confront an unvarnished and uncomfortable truth that resonates deeply across the nation: Malawi’s challenges do not stem from a scarcity of brilliant ideas, well-crafted policies, or eloquent speeches. What it desperately lacks is the catalyst – the unwavering hand that guides these elements into concrete action and visible progress. When leadership is tentative, indecisive, or perceived as lacking a firm grip, even the most promising initiatives flounder.

For any leader aspiring to continue at the helm, the focus cannot solely be on political manoeuvring or electoral strategies. It must, first and foremost, be on demonstrating an undeniable capacity for decisive leadership. The people of Malawi are not asking for more promises; they are yearning for tangible change, driven by a leader who knows precisely where the country needs to go and possesses the conviction to lead it there, come what may.
