There’s been considerable public discussion surrounding State Vice-President Jane Ansah’s upcoming private trip to the United Kingdom. Today, the government has provided clarity on the matter, officially announcing the details and cost for the journey.
Government spokesperson and Information Minister Shadric Namalomba confirmed that Vice-President Ansah is scheduled to depart for the UK tomorrow. She will be accompanied by a modest team of five government officials. The total approved budget for this trip has been set at K168,028,400.
Minister Namalomba explained that this figure encompasses all international travel costs, including airfare and allowances for the entire delegation. Importantly, he clarified that the original estimated cost for the trip was significantly higher, at K298,719,200. However, this amount was substantially reduced to align with the country’s current economic situation and the austerity measures that were announced in October 2025.
This disclosure also serves to refute earlier reports that suggested the trip would cost an exorbitant K1.9 billion and involve 15 other officials – figures the government states are inaccurate.
Speaking on the “Kulinji” radio program, the Minister affirmed that the Vice President’s trip is proceeding as planned and is constitutionally provided for under the President’s Salaries and Benefits Act. He further highlighted the government’s commitment to cost-saving, noting that the current travel plan includes only five accompanying individuals, all of whom will be flying economy class, with the exception of the Vice President, as permitted by the Republican Constitution.
In a move towards greater transparency, this detailed announcement aims to keep citizens informed about the responsible management of public funds for official government travel.
