Dubai airports to resume ‘limited’ flights Monday evening: statement

0

After a tense weekend that saw airspace closures across the Gulf, there’s a cautious but welcome sigh of relief for travelers and the region’s vital aviation industry. Dubai Airports has announced the limited resumption of flights from its two main hubs starting this evening, Monday, March 2, 2026.

Effective tonight, both Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) will begin operating a restricted schedule. Major carriers Emirates and low-cost carrier flydubai confirmed they would resume some services this evening. For those flying out of Abu Dhabi, Etihad Airways expects to restart its operations on Tuesday.

The three-day halt came in the wake of unprecedented regional strikes by Iran, which began on Saturday. These incidents impacted not just military bases but also crucial civilian infrastructure, including residential areas, hotels, seaports, and significantly, airports across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, and Manama. Tragically, authorities reported one fatality in the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, following an incident at the facility.

As an exceptional precautionary measure, the UAE had announced a temporary and partial closure of its airspace on Saturday. This decision was critical, especially for Dubai, where the air industry is not merely a transport hub but a cornerstone of its economy, accounting for about a third of the emirate’s economic output. Dubai International (DXB) holds its position as the world’s second-busiest airport, underscoring the immense importance of these flight resumptions for global connectivity.

While the situation remains under close watch, the reopening of Dubai’s skies, even on a limited basis, signals a cautious return to normalcy for one of the world’s most vital travel crossroads. Travelers are strongly advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight information and schedule updates.
