Dear Cincinnatians,
It’s been four years since Phil Castellini’s infamous ‘Where are you gonna go?’ comment echoed through our city, and frankly, it’s time we collectively moved on. While the frustration among Reds fans is undeniably valid and deeply felt, allowing a single, poorly chosen remark to define our relationship with the team, or worse, with our city’s identity, does a disservice to all that Cincinnati truly is.
Cincinnati is a vibrant, growing metropolis with a rich history, a booming arts scene, a burgeoning culinary landscape, and a passionate community spirit that extends far beyond the confines of a baseball stadium. We have championship-caliber soccer, a rejuvenated riverfront, incredible parks, and a resilience that has seen us through countless challenges and triumphs.
Clinging to resentment over a four-year-old quote, no matter how frustrating it was at the time, only serves to perpetuate negativity. It gives that comment more power than it deserves and distracts from the incredible progress and potential our city holds. Our loyalty, our passion, and our civic pride are far too valuable to be held hostage by a single misstep from an executive.
Let’s refocus our energy. Let’s celebrate the many facets that make Cincinnati a fantastic place to live, work, and play. Let’s continue to demand excellence from all our institutions, but let’s do so from a place of strength and forward momentum, rather than lingering indignation. Cincinnati is bigger, bolder, and brighter than any single quote. It’s time to embrace that truth and move forward, together.
