Netflix’s MLB debut was self-promotion with a side of baseball: Opinion

Netflix recently dipped its toes into the world of live sports broadcasting, making its MLB Opening Day debut with a lot of fanfare. On the surface, it was a clean, professional broadcast featuring some truly big-name talent, promising a fresh perspective for baseball fans.

However, beneath the polished exterior and celebrity commentators, there was a palpable sense that the streaming giant pushed a bit too hard. While the broadcast itself was competently executed, it often felt less like a pure celebration of America’s pastime and more like an extended advertisement for Netflix’s other offerings.

Was it a baseball game with a side of Netflix, or Netflix with a side of baseball? Many viewers came away feeling the latter, suggesting that the self-promotional aspect might have overshadowed the genuine sporting experience.
